YMCA Cape Cod Awarded $2 Million
April 15, 2025
We are pleased to announce a multi-year commitment of $2,000,000 to YMCA Cape Cod to support the construction of a new 68,000 square foot YMCA for the Upper Cape in Falmouth, MA. The facility will serve as a permanent home for Y programs and services that support a vibrant quality of life for people of all ages.
This will be an intergenerational community center that also creates an integrated health and wellness space for individuals, particularly the elderly, to meet their health goals. It is expected to serve about 10,000 people annually.

The YMCA will manage 63,000 sq. ft., including the state-of-the-art Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation Wellness Center, group exercise studios, an aquatics center, gymnasium, community multi-purpose rooms, outdoor walking paths and play areas, and more.
Approximately 5,000 sq. ft. of the space will be dedicated to a primary care clinic and pharmacy operated by the Community Health Center of Cape Cod.
This gift brings the total amount raised for the campaign to over $29 million, surpassing the 80% mark toward the $35 million goal. YMCA Cape Cod expects to break ground on the site as early as this fall and construction is expected to be completed in summer 2027. The new facility will be named The Don and Dottie Smith YMCA (no relation).
“We have a multi-generational family connection to Falmouth and are honored to help bring this transformational facility to life. It will meet some of the most pressing needs in the community, especially for young people and seniors, and help improve health outcomes, enriching all of our lives.”
Debra Smith Knez, chair of the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation
