Father Bill’s & MainSpring Awarded $1 Million
April 13, 2023
We are pleased to announce a multi-year commitment of $1,000,000 to Father Bill’s & MainSpring to support the build out of a new 16,500 square foot Housing Resource Center (HRC) in Brockton as the agency works to end and prevent homelessness in Southeastern Massachusetts.
For over 40 years, Father Bill’s & MainSpring has been a leading innovator in ending homelessness, with programs that shelter and reconnect a diverse group of people to housing and services. The agency serves over 4,800 people annually across 41 cities and towns.
Occupancy in the agency’s shelters has increased 50% in the last 12 years. In addition to widespread challenges related to high housing costs, inflation, workforce development, and fixed incomes, the individuals served are dealing with issues including trauma, substance use disorder, and physical and behavioral health concerns.
Father Bill’s & MainSpring has reconceptualized its shelters as triage centers focused on immediate assessment and rapid exit to housing or treatment. The agency’s new, innovative HRC model has three components: a multi-service day facility offering a range of wraparound services including health care, a smaller shelter, and permanent supportive housing.
Built on best practices, this model aims to end the cycle of homelessness by investing in upstream support and long-term housing solutions.
Father Bill’s & MainSpring broke ground on the Brockton Housing Resource Center in May 2023 and construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
