In combination with a private gift from our Chair Emeritus Richard Smith, we have committed a $10 million leadership gift to Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) for the newborn intensive care unit (NICU).

BWH, one of the nation’s top-ranked programs in obstetrics and gynecology is the largest birthing center in Massachusetts.

After a large-scale renovation and expansion, the NICU is now the largest and most advanced in New England, caring for more than 1,000 premature and at-risk babies each year.

In recognition of this visionary gift, the Brigham will name the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation Newborn Intensive Care Unit in their honor.

“Our family has great respect for the power of healthcare to make an enduring difference in families’ lives. We’re honored to support the Brigham’s life-saving and life-changing work.”

Richard A. Smith, CHAIR EMERITUS
