Transforming Food Allergy Science
Through a $3 million gift, we support researchers at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, its partner institutions, and Yale to tackle the science of food allergies, a growing public health threat.
Food allergy threatens the lives of 31 million people in the United States and more than 220 million people worldwide. Two-thirds of those affected are children.
With our support, the Food Allergy Science Initiative (FASI) was launched in 2016 to accelerate the pace of discovery and enable the development of new diagnostics and treatments.
In just a short time, FASI has made tremendous progress pioneering important new discoveries – attracting talented researchers, facilitating scientific and public outreach and nurturing the food allergy community.
FASI is now a multifaceted initiative that spans world-class labs across the United States.
Since its inception, FASI has transformed the field, making key discoveries about the links between the nervous and immune systems and a giant leap forward in the field of food allergy science:
- Six patents for diagnostics and treatments
- 113 FASI research projects published
- 100+ scientists and investigators collaborating
- 6,150+ citations in medical journals and papers
